Call for scores

Purpose of the Call

The purpose of this Call for Scores is to include some works for unaccompanied cello in international or Italian first performance, in the program of a concert that will take place at the Church of S. Gregorio al Celio (near the Circus Maximus and the Aventine area) in Rome, Italy, on 03 December 2026, at 5pm

Description of the event

The title of the event is “Music as a metaphor for freedom". The event is sponsored by a thematic Call of an Italian association for the protection of performers' rights (RASI). The theme of the RASI's Call, aimed at various types of show production including live performances, was: “Under the same roof”.

In the context of this concert, the common roof is the sky of war. The tragic experience of those who find themselves in such a condition, the solidarity and the peace between peoples as essential conditions of human existence, are the themes that the pieces should be inspired by, and which should be referred to in the pieces' titles.

The concert will open and close with Bach's second and sixth suites, which recall the Christian concepts of Passion and Resurrection, which must be interpreted as powerful and universal metaphors on human suffering and liberation from it

Deadline

Pieces must be sent by September 15, 2026

Guidelines:

* This call is aimed at composers from all over the world.

* The duration of the pieces must not exceed five minutes.

* Pieces written in old style (pastiche) are not suitable to this context.

* It would be interesting if the pieces were inspired by poetic texts.

Note on the possible selection of the pieces:

In the event that the number of pieces received exceeds the total time available (about half an hour), the choice of pieces to perform will be based both on the interest in the pieces and on their feasibility in performance.

Recording and publication of performed pieces

The concert will be recorded (to get an idea of the kind of recording see here or here). The recordings of the pieces in their first performance will be published only if the author and I agree to the publication.
